I love my digital SLR (I have a nikon d200), but I never understood why digital cameras pretend that digital optical receptors are just 'the digital equivalence of film'. They're not, they are completely different and could be made to do so much more than traditional film every could have. to this effect one of my projects is to write a small paper on a new way to treat the digital optical receptor and get some fundamentally new ways of taking photographs off the ground. Hopefully.

I'm in the process of writing an AI mahjong playing algorithm. The idea is that once that works, it's essentially trivial to plug it into a "play a game of MJ" program, and get people to buy it. I love mahjong, and I need to make a bit more money. Why not combine the two in a way to is less certain to make me lose money at a table ;)

My baby, as it were, except I would be a rather negligent parent if I considered it that. Nihongo resources is the website I run for Japanese education material - online dictionaries and lessons, and a downloadable book on the grammar of Japanese are available, and I hope to, over the coming two years, drastically increase the volume of content as well as its footprint on the internet.

I am currently working for Thales Research and Technology in Delft, the Netherlands, under a 2 year contract. The idea is to work for two years as a software engineer there, while my immigration to Canada gets processed. Since this is not the speediest of processes, a full-time limited duration contract seemed like a good idea. At Thales, I am currently working on cleaning up and extending a software architecture that I also worked on for my graduation project (for a M.Sc. in the field of A.I.). I do this job four days in the week, so that I have more than just the weekend left to work on other projects.
